River Spey

The Spey is the main river in the area meeting the sea in the Moray Firth. Its geology provides interest in that unlike many river systems it looses more height and has a narrower valley near its mouth than it does in its upper reaches.

The river is renowned for its salmon and sea trout fishing. The lower reaches are home to some of the world’s most famous whisky distilleries. Glenlivet, Macallan, Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Cragganmore, Glenfarclas, and Knockando all come from the area. This is just a few of many in the area. You can follow the "Whisky Trail" and visit several of these distilleries.

In our opinion one distillery is enough as they are very much the same! It is the products that differ. Time can be better spent somewhere like the Cairngorm Whisky Centre, Inverdruie, near Coylumbridge. A visit to their tasting room getting a true comparison and finding out what you really like can be far more satisfying.
